head shot of peterArtists' Statement

The collaborative works of Vermont based furnace glass artist, Peter Muller, and Massachusetts based flame-working artist, Joseph Peters, are the product of three years of exploration, experimentation, and discovery.
Muller and Peters met in 2006 and quickly realized that they shared many passions besides their love of working with molten glass. Scuba diving, nature, childhood illustrations, and animations are all mutual inspirations for their solo works. Shortly after becoming friends they started to explore the concept of working on a collaborative series that incorporated their shared interests and two different approaches to the same illusive material, hot glass. Their collaborative works form part of numerous collections, both public and private, and their work can be viewed at galleries around the country.

Process and Technique for Collaborative Works

Peter Muller designs and blows contemporary glass forms using traditional furnace glass techniques. Following the cooling cycle, these forms are then cut open using a wet diamond saw. All cut surfaces are then brought back to a crystal polish using various cold working tools, before they are assembled into their final forms.
Once the blown pieces are assembled, flame artist, Joseph Peters uses an Oxy-propane torch to delicately sculpt borosilicate glass into beautiful representations of nature. Joe carefully designs each sculpture to fit within the negative spaces that have been exposed via the cold working process.
These bold pieces serve as a portal through which adults and children alike can effortlessly engage with the arts and be inspired by the limitless possibilities of the imagination.

Contact Peter or Joe for pricing and to learn more about how they can custom design a piece for you or your organization.
